When was the last time you visited the doctor for a checkup?
If someone were to ask you if you felt healthy you may say you feel pretty good; therefore, you may decide that you feel well enough to skip out on seeing a doctor this year. However, you shouldn’t only turn to our Trophy Club, TX, physicians Dr. David Yi and Dr. Paula Lansford-Seabaugh when you’re not feeling well. Seeing your doctor once a year can be a major boon to your health and it may just catch problems you didn’t even know you were dealing with.
Here’s what happens during a standard annual exam at the doctor’s office:
- We check your vital signs (this includes everything from your heart rate to your blood pressure and temperature)
- We get detailed information on your medical history
- We perform a comprehensive physical examination, checking everything from your hearing and vision to joint mobility and reflexes
- We may also perform additional screening tests, lab tests, or administer immunizations based on your current health status, medical history, etc.
Most healthy adults can probably get away with visiting the doctor once a year; however, certain factors, including your health, medical history, and age could require you to come into the office more regularly for care. For example, heavy smokers or those with diabetes will need to see their doctor more often for physical exams and checkups.
These checkups are also a time for you to ask any questions you have about your health. Maybe you’re having trouble falling asleep, or you’re curious about whether the paleo diet is an option for helping you lose that excess weight. These questions about your health can be addressed by our team here in Trophy Club, TX.
As we get older, there are also additional screenings and exams that adults can benefit from getting such as:
- Pap smear
- Mammogram
- Bone density test
- Blood pressure and cholesterol screening
- Colon cancer screening
- Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing
- Depression
- Prostate cancer
Since many potentially dangerous health problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure don’t cause symptoms, it is possible that you could be dealing with these issues right now and not even know it. So, if you’ve been ignoring those annual exams with your doctor, it might be time to make these checkups a priority.
It’s never too late to take a vested interest in your own health. If you need to schedule your annual exam with our Trophy Club, TX, doctors, Dr. David Yi, and Dr. Paula Lansford-Seabaugh, then call Trophy Club Family Medicine at (817) 430-9111 to book your next visit.
