Healthy Habits Start at Home

Can you identify who your child’s main role model is? I’ll give you a hint. That person is looking back at you every morning in the mirror. A parent is always going to be the most influential person in a child’s life. Research indicates that behavioral choices from the parents (inside the home) are the biggest determining factors for how dedicated a child is to exercising and forming healthy habits.  Children naturally mimic what their parents do.  It’s a part of how they learn and develop.   So if you want your kids to inevitably grow up to make smart, healthy choices for themselves, it’s important to show your child what those healthy habits look like.

Healthy Habits, Healthy Life

Here are some tips on how you can put that role model power you have to good use and help improve your family’s overall health for life:

Eat Breakfast & Pack A Lunch

Chose healthy, filling foods that will help boost energy for both your brain and your body.

Manage  Stress

Relieving stress constructively can help create a more calm and balanced state of mind.

Exercise With the Family or Individually

This is where you can show your kids that moving helps ease stressors and boosts your mood.

Sit Down and Enjoy Dinner

Switch off any screens (TV, Phone, Tablets, etc.) and take time to eat mindfully as a family, even if you only have a few minutes.

Rethink Your Screen Usage

Are you always plugged in? Your kids will want to be, too.  Be sure sure to set screen-free time every day.

Set A Bed Time

Proper of sleep is not something to ignore. Even parents need to plan ahead to get enough sleep. The amount of sleep you need depends on various factors — especially your age. The National Sleep Foundation Sleep Duration Recommendations will help individuals establish general sleep guidelines.
